Character Name: Eileen Pryxan
Board Name: ecyor0
Character Gender: Female
Character Age: 19
Zoids: Demantis, Revenge Trap
AIM Screenname: ecyor997
Character Description:
Eileen is a little on the short side, pale with a smattering of freckles. Her eyes are deep blue, and her wavy, tawny-blonde hair hangs down to just below her shoulders. She has a sunny temperament, and an altruistic streak which doesn't know when to stay quiet. She sees Zoid piloting as an exiting adventure, and has a slightly romanticized view of the whole business; she can't see eye-to-eye with those people who see Zoids as simply weapons of war, and she has a little bit of difficulty with those who see Zoids as mindless machines.
Eileen typically wears a white-and-blue colour scheme. Beyond that, what she wears depends on the situation; trackpants & shirt while piloting a Zoid, skirt, shirt and jacket for casual wear, and so on. She also carries a concealed knife on the inside of her boot – she's no expert at fighting, but her current situation makes her uneasy at the thought of being completely defenceless.
Character History:
There was nothing in Eileen Pryxan's upbringing that would pin her as a Zoid pilot. No family member killed in a Zoid battle, no rich relatives to indulge a childhood fancy: while the glass fabrication and fitting company her father worked at turned over a respectable profit, Eileen's family was not bedecked in luxury. In fact, Eileen spent the first six years of her life virtually unaware of the existence of Zoids, due to a combination of her living in a city suburb where Zoids rarely came, and her tendency to stay at home instead of wandering. Then, at age six, while browsing through the family's book collection, she found a thin, hardback book entitled simply, “Organoids”. In it was a brief history of Organoids – the legends and culture associated with them, their recent discovery as fact, and a brief overview of what little was known of their functions. Eileen devoured the book from cover to cover, re-reading it again and again. From Organoids, it was only a matter of time before her attention turned to Zoids themselves. Her drawings changed sharply from generic flowers and faeries, to fanciful Organoid forms, and sketches of dramatic Zoid battles. The school library turned up further reading, and Eileen spent much of her childhood absorbed in books relating the dramatic battles of pilots past, brave Liger pilots taking on swarms of Guysacks, Storm Sworders performing daring, supersonic raids on enemy strongholds, tenacious pilots turning a small, run-of-the-mill zoid into a force to be reckoned with. And always, she would come back to the stories of Organoids.
As a young teenager, Eileen was a dreamer, spending more time gazing out the window than studying quadratic equations. And then she discovered that a local Zoid manufacturer ran a scholarship for the local Zoid academy, subsidizing tuition fees and, more importantly, providing the recipient with a Level 1 Zoid from their factory lineup. Everyone was taken aback by Eileen's sudden turnaround – within a month, she went from an average student on the wrong side of a C to a top student with A's across the board. When she reached the eligible age to apply for the scholarship, she won easily.
Her parents still sometimes fancy they can hear their ears ringing from when Eileen received her acceptance letter.
And so, Eileen arrived at the city's Zoid academy, a brand new Demantis in tow. Her arrival polarized the students somewhat; on the one hand, most of the students loved this chirpy new addition to the ranks. On the other hand, a small group of students (mostly rich kids from the city's social upper class) resented this ragamuffin of a girl encroaching on 'their turf', as Eileen began climbing up the class battle rankings at quite a pace. Chief among her detractors was a certain Dorian Syrel, the quintessential rich brat, riding on his parents' considerable income. Dorian himself was already quite high on the rankings; however this had nothing to do with his skill as a pilot. It was suspected that Dorian's parents had connections to the city's underground, and when facing off against a potentially superior opponent, he would drop veiled hints about pulling strings and having a 'friend' of his parents pay the pilot's family a visit. Generally, they would throw the upcoming fight without much prompting, and they generally stayed quiet out of fear as well. When Eileen approached Dorian's position on the board, he tried the same tactic on her – however he wasn't content with simply beating her. He saw her as a lower-class tramp, who had no business even being at the academy. Rather than drop veiled threats to get her to throw the upcoming fight, he delivered an ultimatum – leave the academy altogether, and forget about becoming a Zoid pilot.
Eileen couldn't give up piloting, not after she'd had a taste of it. But she also couldn't bear the thought of putting her family in danger either. So instead, she made a gamble; she would fight Dorian; but instead of using one of the academy's Zoids, she would fight in the stock Demantis she had come to the academy in, while Dorian would fight in the new Cannonfort his parents had just bought for him. Highly amused by this suggestion, Dorian agreed – after all, how could the Demantis, a woefully under-armoured scout, hope to defeat an assault Zoid like the Cannonfort?
It was Eileen who had the last laugh however; she had been counting on the fact that Dorian had not had time to get used to his new Zoid. Due to a combination of Eileen's experience in the Demantis, the true sense of desperation in her fight, and Dorian's lack of skill, she ended up turning the tables and upending Dorian's Cannonfort onto its back.
At this point, management stepped in. The students had kept quiet about Dorian's underhanded tactics until now – but seeing sunny Eileen's career as a pilot in jeopardy, they went straight to the head professor's door and told him the whole story. By the time he arrived on the scene, Eileen's Demantis was landing the coup de grâce on Dorian's Cannonfort.
Needless to say, Dorian was expelled from the academy, and his parents became the subject on an inquiry, effectively severing all underground contacts they might have had. Eileen was a hero to the students, and the management thought it only fair that she receive some sort of reward for her part in exposing Dorian's underhanded dealings. This reward came when she graduated – to the complete surprise of all present (especially Eileen) the head professor personally came forward to present Eileen with her qualification – and a brand new, fresh-of-the-production-line Revenge Trap.
Eileen started her career as a pilot with high hopes and spirits – but this was to be short-lived. While on an excursion to a nearby lake in her Demantis, Eileen came within a hair's breadth of being hit by a sniper's bullet, followed by a harrowing chase by a Pteras as she sped back to the city at top speed. It didn't take much thinking to realize that the only person who could want her dead was Dorian. And Eileen didn't think Dorian would be above getting to her through her family. In the end, Eileen did the only thing she could think of; she left the city. She told no-one she was leaving, and left no clue as to where she had gone, so as to make sure that Dorian would have no hold on her family – all she left was a letter, assuring them that she was alive, and she hadn't been kidnapped.
From there, Eileen has been a typical wandering pilot, participating in Zoid battles, and essentially living in her Gustav transport. Her sunny disposition has remained more or less intact – however, even though Dorian's influence is unlikely to extend beyond Eileen's home city, the knowledge that someone out there wants her dead prevents her from ever being truly at peace.
